Youth Softball

The Austin Elks Lodge #201 has supported Greater East Austin Girls Softball for over four years. Last year the 6 and under Dirt Divas team made it to the National Tournament and lost in the Championship game to San Benito.

This year the 8 and under Austin Elite team went through the sectionals undefeated. They lost their first game of the Regional Tournament in Schertz Texas on Friday June 30^th to San Marcos. On Saturday they met San Marcos again and sent them home, and then they battled through the loser's bracket all day Saturday without loosing a game. On Sunday morning they faced the last winning team from the loser's bracket. After winning through the loser's bracket they had the undefeated host team from Schertz waiting for them. The only way to win the Tournament would be to beat the Schertz team twice, because it was double elimination and Schertz was undefeated. Playing back to back games kept our girls fired up, after beating Schertz the first time the second game was stopped because it became mathematically impossible for Schertz to catch up with the time and number of innings left. Winning the Regional meant they would travel to Slidell, La. to face a field of 30 All Star teams.

At the National Tournament in Slidell on Thursday July 12th they won the three games they played, on Friday July 13 the girls won the three games they played, on Saturday only 16 teams remained. The girls won all four games played on Saturday, winning the Championship game 10 to 2. Through the play offs the girls' record was 24 wins and 1 loss. At the Nationals they were 10 and 0. Congratulations to the Austin Elite team. We hope to see them very soon at the lodge for a swimming party.

We have most of the hard stuff behind us and the date looks to be in early August. What we really need now are volunteers to come out the day of the event and help with the scoring and registration. Come by the lodge to sign up and get more information.

Ottine Summer Camp

Ever wonder what all those red pigs are about and what the Sweethearts raise money for? Well, we're carpooling to Gonzales to watch the graduation festivities at the Elks State Camp on July 28th. It's a Friday and departure time is 3:00pm, returning to the lodge around 8:00pm. Please sign up at the lodge.
