You are cordially invited to participate in the 2007 Veterans Day Parade and festivities.
The Elks have been involved with Veterans concerns almost since inception. Elks were responsible for creating the first VA hospitals. Today the Elks are still involved with support for our military vets, both locally and through the Elks National Veterans Service Commission.
Texas Elks joined a statewide fundraising effort to correct 60 years of neglect by finally honoring all veterans of World War II with a monument on the grounds of the State Capitol in Austin. The Texas Elks State Association World War II Memorial Fund was chaired by BPOE 201's very own Glen Castlebury.
It came as a surprise to most Elks at the state convention in Houston - as it does to most Texans - to learn that although the war ended 60 years ago, their state still has no official memorial to the 830,000 Texans of "the Greatest Generation" who served in World War II.
Convention delegates enthusiastically called on all Texas Elks and Lodges to give generously to help correct this neglect. The Elks would be the first fraternal order to contribute.
The memorial at the Texas capitol will be a replica of the granite pillar representing Texas in the WW II monument in Washington, D. C.
Elks helped make it happen!
