Fantasy Sports Leagues

Fantasy sports leagues are extremely popular these days, for a variety of sports. Randy Garst has just started the first Austin Elks Fantasy Football League. The League is run by NFL.com and is open to the first 12 Austin Elks to sign up. There will be 12 teams in our league separated into 3 divisions of 4 teams each. We can create more leagues if we get more than 12 players. Our league has an automated draft of players to be conducted on 9/3/06. To join up:

1. Go to NFL.Com Fantasy Football and click on Sign In. If you have a name/ID, enter and start. If not, enter your information on the Sign Up page.
2. Click on NFL Fantasy 2006.
3. Click on Sign Up Now button.
4. Enter the required info and click Submit.
5. Enter a Team Name and click OK.
6. Scroll to the bottom of the Page and click on Search for League by Name.
7. Type in "Austin Elks".
8. Click on the Austin Elks link.
9. Click on the link to join this league.
10. Type in the password "fidelity".
11. Rank your player preferences for Quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, field goal kickers, and defensive teams. Note that a default ranking order will be applied if a player does not rank players.
12. Choose the order you want to use for draft rounds. Each player will draft 14 players (2 QBs, 3 RBs, 3 WRs, 2 TEs, 2 Ks, 2 DTs). For each draft round, you will receive the highest available player remaining on your position list that you have specified should be used for that round. Again, there is a default order already in place.

Once the draft is completed, each team will have 14 players. All non-selected players are free agents. Teams can add, drop and trade players. Each week of the season, each player will select 8 starters and will 'play' head-to-head against another league team. Your 8 starters will receive points based on their performance each week. Highest score wins. Eventually, we will have playoffs featuring the top two teams in each of our three divisions until a winner emerges.

Lounge Games: Billiards, Cards, Dominos, Darts, Shuffleboard

Dominos are played every Monday and Saturday in the Lounge. We usually have a really good turnout for cards on Wednesdays. We have a pool table and dartboard in the backroom. Stay tuned for information about leagues/competitions. Plans are also in the works to get a new shuffleboard table for the lounge. We will have more information about that as it develops.

Lodge Sports: Horseshoes, Washers, Swimming Pool

We have done a great deal of work on our Lawn, and plans are under way to create new Horseshoe and Washer pits. There are no current plans for swimming competitions, but the Pool is a great recreational and stress-relieving facility.

Annual Golf Tournament

The Lodge sponsors an annual Golf Tournament for members. The time, date, and location of this year's tournament are TBD.

Hunting, Fishing, Camping, & Hiking

A number of Elks have expressed an interest in putting together some trips this year. These trips are going to be as varied as our membership and will include family camping outings, local skeet shoots, weekend coastal fishing trips, and pheasant hunts.
