Just like any other organization, BPOE 201 depends on dedicated leaders to keep things running. Our officers are volunteers, elected by the members, and work long hours to make our lodge the great place Austin Elks call home. All of the officer titles, duties, terms, and election rules are set forth in Chapters 12, 13, and 16 of the BPOE Constitution and Statutes and the BPOE 201 Bylaws, Articles V - VII.

The elective Officers of the Lodge are the Exalted Ruler, Esteemed Leading Knight, Esteemed Loyal Knight, Esteemed Lecturing Knight, Secretary, Treasurer, Tiler, and Board of Trustees. The Exalted Ruler-elect appoints the Esquire, Inner Guard, and Chaplain. No member can simultaneously hold more than one office in the Lodge, nor occupy any another position in the Lodge that gives rise to an apparent, potential, or actual conflict of interest.

All officers serve one year terms. Nominations for new officers are made at the first regular session of the Lodge each February. Elections are held the second regular session in February. All members in good standing can nominate, be nominated, and vote (keeping in mind that no member can hold more than one office). Elections are decided by a simple majority of the votes cast. The new officers are installed at a regular or special meeting meeting of the Lodge between March 15 and April 1.

Our Order of Elks is 136 years old and is beginning to become stronger. In Texas and in some other states, our number are growing. We led the nation last year in net-gain membership! More new members are joining; a new Lodge was instituted on May 1st and more communities are in line for a new Elks Lodge. Congratulations to all you TEAM Elks for asking and getting new members!

As I have stated in the past, our Order is mighty as the Herculean Oak, as a million Elks stand together in unity. We may bend, but we will not break! In today's society and in our nation's War on Terrorism, we stand tall in our support of our nation's Veterans and their spouses and families back here at home.
