Brother Steve Ashman's wife Debbie won the 41st Terlingua International Chili Championship held on November 3rd in Terlingua, TX, beating out 342 contestants. There were six rounds of judging by 300 judges to determine the winning chili. Steve is the Pepper Popper and Debbie is the Treasurer for the State of Texas Chili Pod that meets the 3rd Wed each month in the Lodge. Congratulations to Debbie for an outstanding accomplishment.
Detective Jarrett Crippen is American's newest Superhero after winning on the television show Who Wants To Be A Superhero? on the Sci Fi channel. Jarrett and a few hundred of his closest friends had a viewing party for the final episode at Dave & Buster's. He was presented with an award by Police Chief Art Acevedo and raised $1466.00 in donations for the Elks Scholarship fund and three other charities. The story was featured in the September 7, 2007 Austin American Statesman.
William Hart of Austin Lodge #201 was named Chairman of the Government Relations Committee of B.P.O.E. Grand Lodge in July. Hart is a past Texas State Elks Association President and will serve Grand Lodge, by monitoring any pending Federal, State, and local news, laws, regulations, or court decisions that apply to the Grand Lodge, the Texas State Elks Association, or local Elks lodges. Hart is also responsible for reporting to the Grand Lodge on changes that may affect the functioning of the Order and working with other Fraternal and Service Organizations as necessary.

The lodge publishes The High Road, a monthly newsletter to keep Austin Elks up to date with news and events concerning BPOE 201. Gene Moore is editor, and welcomes submissions at info@austinelks.com. The newsletter is mailed to all members of the lodge, and we also keep several copies on-hand for friends and visitors.
